The GCSE drama curriculum is designed to equip students with skills and techniques that are used in acting and theatre, whilst also giving a foundation and knowledge in theatre history. Alongside this, the drama curriculum support students in developing their cultural capital and their understanding of the need for respect and tolerance in others, develops their oracy skills and support self-esteem and self-confidence. Whilst studying drama students are encouraged to listen to and support others, work in teams and employ collaborative working practices, whilst also developing their own confidence in speaking and performing in a public arena.
Those students that continue to study drama at KS4 will gain knowledge and insight into the performing arts industry including job roles behind the scenes and how to prepare for auditions – a process that also supports applications to drama schools and further education establishments.
The drama curriculum upholds Stoke High Schools values of Respect, Inspire, Achieve.
